Makeup Trend at the Oscars 2016

The whole week has been overflown with the Academy Awards/Oscars‘ best and worst dressed, Leonardo DiCaprio‘s winning, best and worst part of the show, and so on and so forth. Aside from Leo’s winning, the biggest chunk being devoted -as usual- to the best dressed section.

To me, despite loving many of dresses, the best was undoubtely Charlize Theron‘s Dior red masterpiece. It was simply sublime! Simple, feminine, sexy, perfect fit, chic…utter perfection.

Now onto my favorite subject: makeup. If we had to speak of a makeup trend at the Oscars, we need to speak then, about simplicity and natural style. Forget about the Kardashian’s over contoured face or strong smokey eyes…here everything was about a fresh, natural, nude or neutral lips, luminous, flawless faces. I loved that women looked real, with makeup that flattered their ages, rather than masking them.

Toda la semana ha sido un sin fin de noticias acerca de los premios Oscar, los recapitulativos de siempre: mejor y peor vestidos, lo mejor y peor del show y por supuesto,  la noticia por la que éste Oscar pasará a la historia que fué el triunfo de Leonardo DiCaprio. 

Para mí, a pesar de ser muchísimos los vestidos que me dejaron “wow”, sin lugar a dudas el mejor fue el rojo de Christian Dior que lució subliminalmente Charlize Theron. Fue sencillamente la perfección de pies a cabeza.

Ahora vamos a mi materia favorita y tema en cuestión que es el maquillaje. Si tenemos que hablar de una tendencia en los Oscars, tendríamos que decir que la simplicidad y los rostros frescos y naturales fueron la norma de la noche. De un lado quedaron los contornos ultra perfectos de las Kardashians…los looks fueron radiantes, con sombras neutras y casi que monocromáticas, labios de colores pasteles o claros. Me encantó que se veían como gente real, con un maquillaje que realzaba y no buscaba ser una máscara de sus rostros o su edad.

Let’s take a look | Miremos alguno de los looks:

Diane Kruger: She is so beautiful, elegant, such a classic beauty, and so is her makeup here, enhancing her features in an understated way. | Diane es tan elegante, toda una belleza clásica y con este maquillaje se ha realzado su rostro de una manera sencilla y natural.

Charlize Theron: She was absolutely perfect on that night, from head to toe! I’m not a big fan of hers, but her beauty is undeniable, and she was -as I said before-simply sublime. | El vestido, el maquillaje, los accesorios todo fue coordinado para que nada robara el show, sino que todos esos elementos funcionaran en armonía y completaran la perfección del look global.

We spot a trend of a more sophisticated type of makeup, where the biggest indulgence comes in the form of a bold lipstick or strong eyeliner, but we are far from over the top coloured eyeshadows or extra contoured cheeks. | Una vez mas vemos que la tendencia fue un maquillaje sofisticado, donde la mayor indulgencia tomó forma de un lápiz mas audaz o un “cat eye”, pero lejos estuvieron las sombras de ojos muy coloridas o mostrar contornos muy marcados.

I’m not a big fan of orange lips, but it looks great on Oliva Munn, who apart from the bright lipstick choice, the rest of the face is sort of toned down. Even Lady Gaga, who despite using a very glittery eyeshadow, the fact that she opted for a monochrome colour and matching soft peachy lips, gives her a more demurred look, vamped out only by the use of false lashes. | No soy fan de los labiales naranjas, pero este le sienta muy bien a Olivia Munn, quién luce un maquillaje bastante sencillo donde lo que destaca son principalmente sus labios. Incluso Lady Gaga, quién a pesar de llevar sombra muy brillante y  abundantes pestanas postizas, los tonos claros utilizados, también ayudaron a dar un candor suave a a su look.

Lovely fresh, glowy, nude makeup, soft lips, flawless face, sheer blush | Looks naturales, radiantes, como al desnudo, con colorete muy suave.

Am I the only one who find these two actresses look alike? I would have brightened up a bit Alicia Vikander‘s face with a bright lipstick or define it with a darker shade of brown. Still, they both radiate youth, looking like themselves but more polished, which is makeup’s main intent 😉 | Acaso soy yo la única que encuentra estas actrices parecidas? Yo le hubiese dado un poco mas de luminosidad al rostro de Alicia Vikander con un labial de color o lo hubiese definido más con un tono de marrón mas oscuro. De cualquier modo, ambas radiaban con su juventud y se veían de su edad.

I wasn’t swept away by Jennifer Lawrence‘s makeup.  I found the eyeshadow’s work a bit sloppy, not that nicely blended, it doesn’t compare with the gorgeous one she had done when she won her Oscar a couple of years back. | No me gustó mucho el maquillaje de Jennifer Lawrence, la sombra no se veía bien difuminada, supongo que ese era el efecto deseado, pero no me convenció, no se compara con el maquillaje precioso que usó hace un par de años cuando ganó su Oscar.

Rooney Mara was one of the few who wore a more intense makeup look, I would say gothic meets ethereal, if that’s at all possible! She has an otherworldly beauty, I loved it.  Kate Winslet, I’ve seen her with nicer makeup looks, like the one she had at the BAFTA’s, but it was in line with the whole natural, soft lips trend, enhanced more by the use of false eyelashes. She is so beautiful, that she can’t go wrong! Saoirse Ronan‘s makeup choice was the right one, she is very young, and it’s the kind of makeup a girl her age should wear for these type of events. | Rooney Mara fue una de las pocas en llevar un maquillaje un poco más intenso, yo diría que es como si un look gótico se encontrara con uno etéreo, su belleza no parece de este mundo, me encantó! Con respecto a Kate Winslet, me han gustado más otros de sus maquillajes, como el que usó en los premios BAFTA, pero igual se veía muy bien y estaba a tono con la tendencia natural de maquillajes que reinó esa noche. Sólo añadió unas pestañas postizas y eso ya le dió la intensidad necesaria a su mirada. Saoirse una de las nominadas a mejor actriz, llevó un look perfecto para la ocasión y su edad.
